Pok Deng’s card game name sounds familiar, and many players have participated in entertainment and making money. You need to understand the rules of the game; spending more time and playing experience are very important. In this article, wowjili ph will share useful instructions for all players.
What is Pok Deng?
Pok Deng (Thai: ป๊อกเด้ง) is a gambling card game originating from Thailand. In which the player tries to get a deck of cards with a higher unit digit than the dealer’s while taking into account pairs, threes, and straights. Pok Deng is also known as Pok Kao (Thai: ป๊อกเก้า, kao meaning “nine”) or Pok Paet Pok Kao (Thai: ป๊อกแปดป๊อกเก้า, meaning eight and nine are high values and hope want.
Pok is a two-card deck with a team of eight or nine; the strongest deck wins. If a player has pok, they must turn their deck face down immediately and may not draw more cards. If the dealer has pok, they must also turn their deck face down and compare it with all other players. If both the dealer and the player have pok, they will tie. If only one player has pok, they beat the dealer.
How to play Pok Deng
Pok Deng can be played by two to seventeen people, including the dealer, but is recommended for three to nine people. To start, players designate a dealer who will control the entire game. One person can maintain the role of dealer for many rounds or players can agree to switch positions as dealer.
Each game is quite short, lasting from a few seconds to a few minutes. Each player, except the dealer, places a bet with cash, chips, or small objects such as wrapped candy and places that bet on the table in front of him or her. Each player plays against the dealer without competing with other players.
The dealer shuffles a standard 52-card deck, decides to go clockwise or counterclockwise, and deals two face-down cards, one at a time, to each player, ending with himself. The remaining cards become a draw deck for players to participate in when it is their turn.
Instructions for playing
Pok Deng plays take place in the order in which the cards are dealt. During their turn, the player has the option to draw a card (call) or not (stand). A player can only draw one card from the top of the draw deck, meaning each player only has two or three cards per game. (Since each player can have a maximum of three cards, seventeen is the maximum number of players before running out of cards.)
If a player’s initial two-card deck has a taem (described below) of eight or nine, he or she has the pok (Thai: ป๊อก) announce it and immediately show those cards face down. This is a good deck, and the player cannot draw more cards.
The dealer takes the last turn when drawing cards to calculate the score.
If the dealer has pok, those cards are turned face down, and all players’ decks are compared with the dealer’s.
If the dealer does not have pok, before deciding to draw a card, the dealer can reveal the decks of several players and compare them with his own.
How to calculate points and arrange cards in Pok Deng
Players will win or lose, depending on the contents of their deck. Just like in poker, there are card arrangements that can increase the value of a deck beyond its parts. The scores of these decks of cards are called the stamps of the deck. These card arrangements are explained below in the “Score Calculation” section.
Team is the total value of the cards in a deck, in units of digits. Cards two through nine are worth the number printed on them. The ten J, Q, and K cards have zero value. For example, Pok Deng with a deck of 2 and 5 has a tag of 7, a deck of 10 and 4 has a tag of 4, and a deck of K and Q has a tag of 0. Deng is a multiplier that applies to players’ bets, depending on their hand arrangement:
Normal Deng: a deck of cards without any special card arrangement with a deng equal to 1.
Deng straight: a three-card deck with three cards of the same suit (hearts, diamonds, or spades) with a deng equal to 2.
Deng pair: a three-card deck with two identical cards (for example, 5-5-9) with a deng equal to 3.
Deng of three: a three-card deck with three identical cards (e.g., 4-4-4) with a deng equal to 5.
